About the Position:

The Fresh Market (TFM) currently has an opening for a Corporate Counsel to join the in-house legal team in our Store Support Center (099). The Corporate Counsel will be responsible for providing practical, day-to-day legal support across a broad range of commercial matters. This role will partner closely with procurement and various business departments throughout the Company on commercial contracts and provide guidance to the business on matters related to marketing and promotions, data privacy, and data security.The position will be hybrid, requiring approximately three (3) days in the office with the ability to work remotely otherwise.

What You'll Do:
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage vendor, supplier, and other commercial agreements to protect the company’s interests and support business objectives
  • Identify and reduce contractual, operational, and regulatory risks by addressing liability, indemnification, insurance, and compliance requirements
  • Provide practical guidance to business partners on contract terms, pricing, performance issues, disputes, and enforcement strategies
  • Create and improve templates, playbooks, and contracting processes to drive consistency, efficiency, and faster turnaround
  • Work closely with several internal departments on strategic initiatives, while also supporting insurance and information security matters
  • Support data privacy, data security, and incident response efforts, including compliance with applicable privacy laws and related policies and procedures
  • Engage and manage outside counsel, as needed, to support contract negotiations and advise on data privacy and data security matters

In addition to the key responsibilities outlined above, the Corporate Counsel may be required to undertake additional responsibilities and projects as directed by the General Counsel. This includes providing support on special assignments, conducting legal research, handling due diligence/transactional matters, participating in cross-functional initiatives, and assisting with various other legal matters as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the Legal Department.

Qualifications:

At a minimum, what you’ll need:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active licensure in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • Approximately 3 – 5 years of commercial contracting experience
  • Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills
  • Sound judgment, strong attention to detail, and a practical business-oriented approach
  • In-house experience or experience supporting multi-state retail clients preferred, but not required
