About the Position:

The Fresh Market currently has an opening for Merchandising Program Manager in our Store Support Center, located in Greensboro, NC. The Merchandising Program Manager serves as the orchestrator of Merchandising strategy execution, translating strategic priorities set by the Chief Merchandising Officer into clear, aligned, and executable initiatives across functions and departments.

Reporting to the Chief Merchandising Officer, this role ensures merchandising programs are scoped, sequenced, resourced, and delivered with rigor, connecting strategy to day to day execution while driving accountability, visibility, and results. The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of merchandising acumen, program management discipline, and cross functional leadership.

What You'll Do:

Strategy Translation & Program Leadership

  • Partner with the Chief Merchandising Officer to translate merchandising strategy, goals, and annual priorities into actionable programs, roadmaps, and milestones
  • Create a process for development of department and category levels strategies that directly ladder back to Merchandising goals
  • Own the end‑to‑end governance of major merchandising initiatives (e.g., assortment strategy, vendor strategy, pricing, systems/process improvements)
  • Ensure initiatives are tightly aligned to Merchandising strategy, goals, and financial targets

Cross‑Functional Execution & Alignment

  • Serve as the single point of coordination across initiatives, proactively identifying dependencies, risks, and trade-offs
  • Drive clarity on ownership, decision rights, timelines, and success metrics

Program Management & Operating Rhythm

  • Establish and manage program plans, timelines, resourcing models, and delivery metrics
  • Build and maintain program dashboards, executive readouts, and status reporting for senior leadership
  • Implement and continuously refine the merchandising execution cadence (weekly/monthly operating forums, milestone reviews, escalation processes)

Performance, Risk & Change Management

  • Anticipate execution risks and bottlenecks; proactively surface issues and drive solutions
  • Track outcomes versus objectives and ensure corrective actions are taken when initiatives drift
  • Support change management by ensuring teams are aligned, informed, and supported through implementation

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve how Merchandising plans and executes work (processes, tools, ways of working)
  • Apply best practices in program management while adapting them to the pace and realities of merchandising
Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

At a minimum, what you’ll need:

  • 7–10+ years of experience in program management, merchandising, retail, or consumer businesses
  • Proven experience leading complex, cross functional initiatives in fast-paced environments
  • Strong understanding of merchandising processes (assortment, pricing, sourcing, lifecycle, planning)
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and executive presence
  • Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with program/project management tools and methodologies (Agile, waterfall, hybrid).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience working within Merchandising, Planning, or Category Management teams
  • Retail, wholesale, or consumer products industry background
  • Experience supporting executive leadership or enterprise transformation initiatives - PMP, Agile, or equivalent certification
