The Fresh Market currently has an opening for a Payroll Manager in our Store Support Center (099). The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing and hands-on management of UKG Pro and Workforce Management platforms. This role involves monitoring all tasks necessary to achieve the organization’s payroll processing objectives, including maintaining relationships with external auditors and state and federal agencies. The Payroll Manager will manage payroll-related responsibilities for over 12 ,000 employees and maintains tax withholding for 22 states.
What You'll Do:- Manages 4 direct reports to process weekly and bi-weekly payrolls for hourly and salaried employees. Serve as the SME for processors and serve as the focal point for payroll critical concerns.
- Coordinates weekly submission of ACH files, tax files, garnishments, and all other reporting requirements.
- Internally - works closely with Accounting, Human Resources, Operations, Risk Management, and Store Management.
- Externally – works closely with ADP (tax provider), BOA (electronic pay and positive pay), Corporate Cost Control (unemployment claims and verifications), SSA (SSN verifications), Kronos Workforce Management (timekeeping administration), and Ultimate Software (HR/Payroll system).
- Completes regular audit schedules for internal controls.
- Develop, maintain, and ensure adherence to established processing procedures including checklists and storage of documents.
- Serves as the leader for tasks associated with yearend duties include processing and delivery of employee W-2 forms and tax preparation.
- Coordinates reporting with Finance, collaborating with the Benefits and Compensation teams for benefit/payroll needs.
- Maintains current knowledge and ensures compliance of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
- Understands and maintains Kronos Work Force Management (Dimensions) on the UKG Pro platform.
- Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Creates Cognos Reports for payroll and stakeholders
- Additional duties may be assigned.
At a minimum, what you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree and/or 10 years of experience managing multi-state payroll systems.
- 5 years of experience managing 4 or more direct reports with an employee population of more than 5,000.
- Ability to build complex Cognos reports.
- Experience with ADP tax services, Workforce Management (Dimensions) timekeeping, and UKG preferred.
- Strong MS Excel experience.
- Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Preferred APA Certification.
